This is a very broad goal, but I think it’s still attainable. Before the end of the year, I would like to have sewn:
three shirts
three skirts
one jacket/blazer
one vest
one dress
one winter coat

This is something I’ve wanted to be able to do for the last couple of years. A friend brought me to circus school with her one day (NECCA in Brattleboro, VT) and I was hooked. Alas, I was not strong enough to do much, but I did manage a pretty clumsy handstand against a wall.
Since then, I’ve had surgery on my wrist due to pain I had had since my teenage years that was preventing me from putting weight on my hand/wrist. I’ve injured my lower back as well, but I think it’s healing. And I’ve been going to the gym about three times a week for the last couple of months. The gym is helping a lot! I need to increase my strength and also lose a few pounds (maybe ten) in my lower half.
I plan on attaining this goal by the end of summer 2010 (a little more than one year from now).
Really, this is the beginning of the ‘Sewing a reproduction Victorian outfit’ goal, which is, I admit, a pretty vague goal to begin with. The corset is really the foundation for all of it. And if I can make one that fits properly, I’ll finally have a pattern that I can use to make others.
The particular corset I have in mind is for the Victorian outfit I plan on making for this Halloween. All black, with a black chemise and black drawers. Black skirt and shirtwaist or dress. Black hat. Black accessories. Victorian-gothy and slightly scary.
