Blues trumpet is a dream of mine for some time now. I played trumpet in high school, and have picked it up every once and a while since. I read music better now than I ever did in high school where I got by by using a good ear and a talent for remembering music.
At this moment I have no strength in the facial muscules and lips required to play well. My fingers are rusty, and my scales need work.
I am playing guitar, which is easier to practice. Where I live a trumpet is too loud, even muted. It is interesting how long I have allowed that bullshit excuse prevent me from picking up the instrument that is my first love.

How I did it: 1) I was looking for something to do that my brother and I could enjoy together besides pizza and beer and the hockey game.2) We signed up for lessons - our teacher was great.3) My brother quit, I continued.4) I practiced everyday for at least 15 minutes for about 3 months (sometimes for over an hour, mostly for enjoyment)5) Serendipity stepped in, a friend heard me practicing one day, and decided to pick up her guitar and play again.6) S… Read how I did it…

Have you ever wondered why you just don’t seem to be able to work with ‘so in so’ in accounting, or marketing, or your boss? Are you a teacher, and seem to be having a real problem getting through to Johnny or Sue? Do you hope to teach, or influence, or work with, or just get along with someone who seems, well, to just not get it?
Well written, easily grasped, and very applicable, this book unravels a whole plethora of tricky communication issues.
The core of the book? Two questions;
1) In general, do you consider yourself a more outgoing person, or are you a more reserved person?
2) Do you consider yourself more a people person, or are you more interested in doing things, or getting things done?
Recognizing that no one is completely one or the other in either case, you will find that people will gladly answer those two simple questions.
Who would have thought there would be so many insights, and revelations from those two simple questions?
I’m going to cheat a little on this entry. “Challenge to Succeed” is a CD. In it we hear Jim Rohn give a seminar. It may be a book as well, but I haven’t read it, neither have I come across it as a book.
Jim Rohn is a character. Fun to listen to, and funny, with interesting stories, Jim gives great insight to what it takes to create success in your life. His very engaging style, and sincere advice is a true listening pleasure.
