How I did it: I'd just started really getting into bike riding last year, and not really had the opportunity to ride a lot in the last year. After I got back in the country this year I hitched out to Portland, spent a couple weeks rummaging through parts bins, looking for ways to make my old 10-speed a touring machine. After the conversion, I went on one 50 mile ride fully loaded with my touring gear, and was on my trip two days later. … Read how I did it…
in transformation. I am always discovering new ideas, revelations about myself, things that I want to accomplish or experience, and my roles in my community. For about the last year though, I have been in a place where I am not constantly trying to get away from myself. Escapism in my early years came in the form of books and television. In my middle years of life it was drugs and alcohol. In the present of my existence I like who I am and who I see myself becoming. I no longer live to distract myself, I am too busy living for that.
been ones of progress. I’ve almost completely gutted the thing, and with the help of my good friend Richard have replaced all of the structural damage. The roof is half on now. I decided to hire a roofer, since I have no health insurance; paying the roofer is cheaper than a hospital bill. A structural engineer did some number crunching for me, and turns out I will be able to replace a couple of existing walls with heavy beams so that I can have my big, open dream kitchen! Typically I work 5 days a week, spend Sunday at home with my lady, then my other day off is dedicated to the renovation.
