How I did it: I started by buying a fridge. I'll be taking the fridge with me when I move out, otherwise it wouldn't have been worthwhile buying one. I buy food in multipacks that can be frozen. It's cheaper to buy things in bulk, but if you buy fresh for one person, you have to use them up quickly.
