I failed to be friendly and festive at Christmas, and again for the new year. I think I am going to go for a special Civil Rights Day message to everyone. Or maybe Inauguration Day. Or maybe my own birthday (Jan 21). If I fail at that, there is always Presidents Day (I’m a Valentine’s Day hater) or Groundhog Day.

How I did it: I called up my favorite local indie record store, Slowtrain in SLC, and asked if they had any copies. After work I drove over there and bought it before I went home. Then I high-centered my Pontiac Vibe on the snow just trying to drive down my street, and my wife and I had to spend a good hour or two shoveling just to get our cars in the driveways and us into our house. So I didn't listen to it until the next day. … Read how I did it…
In the past I’ve twice had 43things lists under different (now defunct) account names. I decided to try it again, but not try so hard to be clever, weird, or grandiose. This time I am going to keep it real, and just set down some of the simple things I actually want or need to do, even if they are kind of silly. I will let myself place some larger, long term goals, but I will just focus on the little ones at first.
Hence, this goal to finish reading The Order of Odd-Fish, an absurd young adult novel I am currently making my way through. It’s entertaining, but it hasn’t quite sucked me in the way that the last books I read did. It’s probably not fair of me to judge this book directly after reading the likes of The Book Thief and Octavian Nothing, Vol II: Kingdom on the Waves, because the quality of those two titles leaves me probably expecting too much out of a silly book.
I’m going to break this one off tomorrow. I have to take a desert to work for a Christmas lunch on Tuesday and I’d like to give some loaves to a couple of friends/neighbors.
One of the few recipes I have ever attempted. I have actually done it two or three times before but it’s been a couple of years. I like to put chocolate chips in them, an addendum which my grandma, were she here, would probably view as a sacrilege.
