I paid off my car today, as my car insurance is up for renewal. Without the lien holder, I can adjust my deductibles to lower my car insurance. Also, since I’ll no longer have monthly car payments, I just gave myself a huge raise!

Talking with strangers can be one of the most tremendous experiences around. I remember I helped a couple from the United Arab Emirates buy a train ticket to return to Paris from Disneyland Paris (don’t ask). We just made the train, so we took the remaining seats and talked with each other for the hour ride back. He is actually a judge in his native land, and it was so fascinating to hear his perspective on judicial matters, how the law is practiced differently in Europe, the UAE, and the US, and generally what life was like in the Middle East. I sometimes wonder if the world would have a higher level of understanding and compassion if we ignored our parents and did talk to strangers…
