And I’m not sure I can really communicate it. I just said to myself if I think I’m happy, then I am. It might sound like lying to yourself, but if you get in the habit of thinking in a positive, happy frame of mind it will come naturally after awhile.
I think one thing holding me back for so long was I always needed some prerequisite to be happy. I’ll be happy as soon as _. The problem is there’s always something else to get, to become, to do. But now I know I can be happy before, during, after, and even if these things never come to pass.
I read aloud Ecclesiastes in its entirety to a Christian friend the other day. I knew I liked it, but I had forgotten why until then. There is so much wisdom in it. I think I’d like to memorize it all.
Incidentally, that’s just what the protaganist of Fahrenheit 451 did.
