hey all! i was diagnosed with ADD when i was eight and have tried lots of different things, including meds and counseling, to help me focus. i didn’t like medication so much (although others might, definitely no shame in that) but found that working with a counselor really helped. at one point i thought i’d never graduate high school and now i plan on getting my Ph.D.
i’ve found that ADD can lead to anxiety, so be sure to take a deep breath! last year i started doing yoga (yin practice specifically) and immediately my friends and family noticed a difference. i am more focused and relaxed even the day after practice and am doing better in classes.
honestly, the best resource for controlling ADD is you. the hardest thing to do is overcome your mental roadblock of feeling “stupid” and being frustrated with yourself.
just remember that you aren’t lazy because it’s harder to get motivated (and stay motivated) to write that term paper.
you aren’t stupid if you have to read the same chapter 5 times because you zone out in the middle of it.
you aren’t crazy because you daydream in class.
be patient with yourself. laugh at yourself. and definitely ask for help if you need it. school may be a little more difficult, and it may take you a little longer, but there is no reason you can’t and won’t do it!
(and definitely consider the yoga) :o)
