I’ve been doing this, which is exciting – I finally got around to posting at least one meaningful thing to my blog per day, it’s rather exciting. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep this up.
Finally got my web site all up to date and running smoothly, it’s even at it’s new (old) domain. Phew, glad that’s out of the way.
I’ve recently promised myself that I would post a meaningful post once a day (at least), and it’s been going well so far. I’ve been having some verbal discussions with people concerning the topics (once posted), for now, until I can get a proper discussion medium set up for my site.
I simply don’t use my cell phone as much as I could have, so I recently switched over to Virgin Mobile (my cell phone is en route) and their prepaid plan. I really like the fact that I could (theoretically) keep a cell phone for only $20 every 3 months, and nothing more. Plus, incoming text messages are free, so I can’t wait to abuse that!
I’ve seem to have completed this, for now, by (finally) getting my own Mac Mini and importing all of my music into iTunes. I just have to go through the sticky process of fixing up any loose ID3 tags, but this isn’t a major problem.
A side effect of having everything in iTunes is that now I can provide a rating for all of my music, which is highly useful. I’ve been actively use MenuTunes to acheive this, which it, in itself, has been a god-send. It’s terrifically easy to rate music, and pretty to boot! I recommend it to everyone.
I’ve been trying to maintain my music collection for some time now, fairly successfully, but I have become disappointed with the quality of ID3 tags and general accessability of my files.
Currently, my music is organized as such:
/Genre/Artist/Album/
However, I’ve simply found that method to not work as well as it should. I began writing an organizer (in Perl, of course) that used AllMusicGuide as a backend – however after their recent reorganization, things have become much more difficult.
Recently, I started working with the Amazon Web Services API and found it to be easy to use and contain a great majority of my collection – so the progress continues. I plan on organizing my collection something like this:
/Files/Artist – Album Name/
Then in the backend I will have an XML database which I can pull information from to construct on-the-fly playlists and such. That way, using a simple XPath query, I can have nice music to listen to. Or, at least, that’s how I’d like it to go. We’ll see what actually happens.
This was definitely worth my time – I highly enjoyed it. In all, it took me about a year to complete. It was especially hard due to the fact that the IMDB Top 100 list is constantly changing. In order to complete it many DivXs were downloaded, movies rented (via Netflix), and DVDs purchased (for the hard to find ones). This list is much more practical to complete then some of the other movie lists, so I highly recommend that everyone puts at least a dent in it.
It’s terribly hard to complete this particular list due to the rarity of some of the films. Although, it is much easier to find some of the films then the ‘Best Documentary’ list.
My passport lapsed about a year ago and I haven’t gotten around to updating it – probably should, it’s about time I head out of the county.
Completely worth it. Television has never been the same. I have my tivo set up to record about 30-40 shows that I really like, I can sit down at any time and immediately watch something that I truly enjoy, as opposed to the general gibberish that’s available during non-peak hours. Go for it, it’s worth every penny!
I’ve done this a couple times now, however I really really want to get my latest venture off the ground – here’s hoping for the best!
I’m currently attending the Rochester Institute of Technology – going for my Bachelor’s in Computer Science. I’m only about one year away from finishing and things are looking up.
My fileserver, nato, is in serious need of some proper data management. Currently, it runs Freebsd and has about 300gb of space. (I have some more disks to add) I think that by Raid 5ing the disks that I have I will be able to hopefully avoid any major catastrophes. I plan to do this by using vinum (Which I’m currently using, anyway. But right now I’m only concatenating the disks together, which is pretty sketchy.)
Pros:
1) Keeps you nice and cool.
2) Doesn’t take any time to maintain on a day-to-day basis.
3) Feels funny. (Try putting on a hat!)
Cons:
1) Doesn’t look good on a white person.
2) Chicks don’t dig it.
3) It hurts to shave. (I tried a number of blades, creams, etc. It generally worked out to just not feeling good.)
4) You have to shave every couple days in order to maintain it.
5) Shaving takes a long time – anywhere upwards of 45 minutes in order to do it right.
6) It’s hard to do it right on the first try. There’s a lot of hair on your head – it’s surprisingly hard catching them all!
I’ve written so many, I just need to get moving, write some documentation, and finish one! (Some unfinished ones can be found on my cpan.org page.)
I’ve purchased a variety of teas, including Earl Grey (which is my current favorite) – I’m working on it! Now that it’s winter, keeping warm with some tea seems like a good idea.
I like how this site attempts to focus on a very different social aspect of life (aspirations) as opposed to something more tangible (groups, interests, friends, etc.)
I really enjoy the user interface – very intuitive, mostly straight forward.
