Jenno-
I have enjoyed bike-riding my whole life, but didn’t enter an event until last summer, when I was 35. A co-worker told me about the Potomac Pedalers Touring Club, http://www.bikepptc.org/
In September I rode in their annual “Century” ride, near Berryville in the Shenandoah Valley. You have the option to ride different routes, including 25, 33, 50, 66, and 100 miles. Since it was my first time, I did a “modified 25” which turned out to be 30 miles. BEAUTIFUL ride….horse farm country, relatively flat with rolling hills. Overall it was SO worth doing. The people were nice and they had breaks every 10-15 miles, with food & drinks.
Here’s the site for this year’s ride, which I hope to do again: http://bikepptc.org/web_final/
I’ve also heard good things about another ride, the Seagull Century, http://www.seagullcentury.org/ , which is in October near Salisbury, MD. Keep in mind: Eastern Shore = FLAT :-)
