I haven’t hosted an exchange student yet, but my husband and I signed up for the community host program at the local university, and we were assigned an international student from China to be nice to. We took her out to dinner and invited her to family gatherings, gave her a place to stay over breaks, and took her to the airport to go home for the summer. This was a great experience, and we have made a new friend. I definitely recommend participating in this kind of program if it’s available in your area.

This weekend, my mom decided to buy a new sewing machine, and I inherited her old one. I have practiced a few stitches, and know how to thread the new machine (haven’t touched the old one yet). Must now acquire a table to work on, good scissors, cutting mat, rotary cutter, pins, thread, fabric, etc. And decide on a project. (Most likely accent pillows for the sofa).
Just putting it on hold for a little while.
So I still don’t really know how to knit or crochet, but I have learned to use the Knifty Knitter, and have made several gifts with it…. Multiple scarves/hats, and a pair of Maryjane style slippers. I think this is more of a cold weather hobby, so will probably not make a lot for the next few months. Besides, I just inherited my mom’s old sewing machine since she was enticed into buying a new one, so I have something slightly more useful (I want to make some things for my house, such as pillows and curtains) to learn for now.
