Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

45. Wicked

This is the story of the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz tales. It was quite hard to get into at first but worth the perseverence towards the end.

44. Running with Scissors

A very strange book, about a boy who has a very mixed up childhood and ends up living with his mother’s psychotherepist. It’s quite gripping and very funny in parts.

Another excellent book by Malcolm Bradwell which was fascinating and accessible at the same time.

Ok, chick-lit but easy to read and funny in places.

40. Black, White and Gold

This is the autobiography of double Olympian Kelly Holmes. It made a great read and was a nice insight into another world. I enjoyed it a lot.

Week 4

I’m still going, although I am a little behind. I’m enjoying having a set program to do, which means I don’t have to think about what I’m going to do when I get to the gym and also I feel bad if I miss too many days because I get further behind. I found it hard work this morning but I knew I could manage it if I just kept going and during the 3rd set I felt more in the ‘zone’ so to speak.

39. Deep Heat

Fairly ordinary chick-lit. Ok to read but a weak ending.

I did all my filing!

and also some of P’s too. I rearranged the desk to make it usable, and sorted out the cabling too. We’re getting there….slowly!

Week 2 and 3

I got behind a bit but I’m catching up now. The 20 mins (1 min walk, 4 mins run) was tough this morning, and I was hurting when I finished. I’m determined to finish this programme though and be able to run 5k.

share fitness training results with 43 43Ters on Traineo
I'm never going to get around to this

I already record all my training on a spreadsheet, and while I love the idea of an online tool, I would still need to complete my existing record since I’ve been keeping it for three years now which is a record for me!

38. The Pact

Really good read by Jodi Piccoult but it does end rather abruptly. I didn’t feel that the story was finished quite satisfactorily. The addition at the end of the book of a chapter of a new book also led to me assuming there was a lot more to read but coming across the ending when I wasn’t expecting it. A bit frustrating but I enjoyed the book itself.

Week 1 - Thursday

Well, I failed to run in the rain yesterday, but I caught up this morning before work so I’m back on track. Got a session to fit in tomorrow and then a long walk at the weekend which should be possible as P’s M&D are visiting and will bring the dog who loves to walk :-)

Run 2.5k without stopping (read all 3 entries…)
I managed the right distance

this morning – nearly 2.5k anyway, but I was doing one min walking and one min jogging, repeated for 20 mins. I guess I just have to work up to being able to run this far.

Week 1 - Weds

Well, yesterday was a rest day so I managed that ok :-) Now I have to cycle home and then do the next 20 min section in the rain before heading to hockey training. A real test!

Week 1 - Monday

20 mins – 1 min walk, 1 min jog. Managed this last night, got as far as the walkway before the railway bridge – about a mile and a half according to gmaps pedometer. Wasn’t too hard, but had to try to keep going and was tired afterwards. Pleased I went though.

Go for a run...just once...to start with
I did it!

Started the Nike 5k program by doing the first stage last night. Felt kind of silly but 1 min intervals doesn’t give too much time for thinking which was good. Didn’t see anyone I knew, phew.

A great book by Matthew Parrish about a trip to South America. It’s funny and descriptive and very enjoyable to read.

Thursday 21st September

It seems this is my last entry for this goal! I’ve really enjoyed this one and I’m going to miss entering things and reading others entries. I’ll have to pop back on occasion! So, today I am happy at completing a goal which took me a whole year of committment :-)
