茉，一个由经营着照相馆的单亲母亲养大的１８岁少女，在遇到孟老板后一生的命运发生了改变，她成了明星，同时也怀上了孟老板的小孩，那是上个世纪３０年代旧上海的事；茉生下孩子不久就被抛弃了，失去了明星的光彩，她为这个私生女取名叫莉，莉一心要离开这个阴冷的家，嫁给了水泥厂工人邹杰，她决定生个小孩，但她偏偏不能生育，只能从福利院抱了一个女孩，取名叫花，莉对生活仍然极度不满，甚至怀疑自己的丈夫与养女有染，丈夫选择了卧轨自杀，这是上个世纪五六十年代的事；莉精神分裂离家出走了，花找了个男友小杜，在结婚后怀孕不久发现小杜有了外遇，她坚决地提出离婚并把小孩生了下来，这已是上世纪８０年代的事……
