The self-centered among us fully endorse this goal as one that is marketable in most any profession (certainly mine) and, should I chose to delve back into academia, it will definately be useful. Then there’s the whole notion of mastering one of the major romance languages, which will make it somewhat easier to learn the others (French, Italian, Portuguese). And, last I checked, there’s a good hemisphere-load of people who speak this language who live in some really cool places.
