Broadway's Main Characters replaced today... 1 year ago

Julia Murney, Kendra Kassebaum and
Sebastian Arcelus are to join the Broadway musical Wicked on 9 Jan 2007, playing the roles of Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero, respectively. All three actors have played the same roles in the musical’s national tour.

I’ve got tickets to see it on January 19, so I’m anxious to see the reviews they get on their first show.

save the environment (read all 5 entries…)
I need to focus more 1 year ago

on my personal choices.

Some things that I will do…
Buy fewer things, generally.
Avoid things with excess packaging.
Avoid products with toxic components.
Avoid things produced in sweat shops.
Buy food locally.
Buy food grown with few chemicals and petroleum-based fertilizers.
Reuse what I already have.
Recycle everything that can be recycled.
Take fewer trips in my car (since I have no public transportation available).
Turn off lights and don’t use appliances excessively.
Install energy efficient appliances.
Avoid getting power from non-renewable resources.

I want to live so that people many generations in the future will have a beautiful planet. I want to live so that biodiversity is maintained and improved. I want to live sustainably.

And, according to Captain Planet, the power is mine!

eat more organic food (read all 6 entries…)
I've been reading... 1 year ago

The Omnivore’s Dilemma, my Michael Pollan, and have since discovered that “organic” is not the magic word for food that is healthy, natural, and humanely & sustainably produced. Those are more likely to be “pastoral” or “multicultured” or “locally grown.” People like Joel Salatin on his farm Polyface in Virginia are doing things the right way. Organic, and especially Industrial Organic, is often no better for the land than typical farming. It’s nothing more than a marketing tool.
