My total expense was only $20.00. What made the most difference was getting the crap out of there. Once I could see the floor, the surface of the side table and the chair, I could see more what I needed to do.
I had some old paints, and I unified the clock, picture frames and lamp and candle holders so that they all “matched” the quilt better. None of them are really the same color, but they blend together like the quilt patches. It looks great and cost me nothing.
The money was spent on a lampshade and some candles. I also place some “nutritious” reading materials on the bedside, which has led to me being more regular in bible reading and journaling. And now that I have a place to set my coffee mug, I can enjoy fresh coffee every morning while I read.

I have this done now, and it has made a big difference. One of the best things I have done in there is to be consistent about keeping it clean and neat. I have no paperwork in there, no mending, no dirty clothes, nothing but books and clean sheets no matter what.
One thing I DO wish for is a queen sized bed. I have a double.
I have been doing this, and it has led me to a place of understanding and peace. Some of the relationships that were unhealthy (to me) survived after all, and have become more healthy because of my limit setting. Others just died a natural death and I have not missed them at all.
It surprised me to know that many of the people who were abusing me stopped entirely when they knew that the relationship did not matter to me anymore. They got real responsive and made a better effort, something I did never expected.
I will confess that these are still probationary relationships.
