How I did it: Do your research online and off. Don't buy one until you've had experience with one, learned how to "operate" it, and know that you'll be using it more than once. Even though it is tempting to buy a high quality one off the bat, don't unless your situation calls for it. I did grow up a lot during my four years at school, and it is definitely more than some people do while at school.
