Don’t despair my forward-head postured friends! I was once much like you, hunched over like I was straining to see something. I wasn’t quite at Egor status, but I was heading there. Here are the things that dramatically helped me.
1) Chiropractic Care: There are two types of Chiropracters…one treats your symptoms and sends you on your way, the other actually puts you on a plan to correct the curvature of your neck and spine…the second one is what you should look for. Most Chiropractors that focus on wellness programs (that is the second one I referred to above) will work out a program with you regardless of your financial situation. I was going a few times a week to get my spine adjusted…although I don’t know if that did much for me or not. What I know did a ton for me was the exercises that they had me do while i was there. These exercises helped stretch and reshape the curve of my spine and neck. I’ve only been going since November and I see a massive difference. Many people have commented on my improvements and asked me how I did it. My girlfriend was also suffering from similar posture problems and she has made great progress as well seeing a chiropractor.
2) If you can’t see a chiropractor, I would recommend purchasing something similar to a “Posture Pump”. My girlfriend got one from the Chiropractor and it is very similar to the equipment that we use at the Chiro’s office. I should probably use it more than I do. Just google “Posture Pump” to find out more info (the one we use is pictured with my post).
3) Stretching when I can has helped as well. I pretty much suck at doing this and need to do a better job.
4) When you are walking, try to always look at the horizon and not down at the ground…always at the horizon. When you are sitting, try to sit at the edge of your chair. Sitting at the edge of your chair should force you to arch your back and sit up straight to maintain balance. This is especially important for those of you that sit at a desk most of the day. Also, if you use a computer, make sure the monitor is eye level. If you have to, place your monitor up on books or something else. Ideally, if you divide the viewable space of your monitor into three even horizontally viewable sections your eyes should be level with the line between the top and middle sections of the viewable portion of your monitor (when you are sitting up straight).
I hope this information helps you out as it has helped me!
My posture is not yet perfect, but it is getting there!
