California road trip
Untitled 9 months ago

I wanted this to be an adventure and man, it was. We started off in San Francisco. We saw everything that there is to see, except Alcatraz because the tours were all booked. I was completely inspired when I visited this little shop in San Francisco called Mollusk Surf Shop. They had the most amazing t-shirts, posters, surfboards, books, etc. I wish I could work for them.

We drove down to Salinas, where my family lives. I got to see my grandma for the last time. The three days that I spent in Salinas were basically the last three days of her life and I feel so lucky to have spoken with her and held her hand then. I had to say goodbye knowing that I would never see her again and that was one of the most difficult and emotional days I’ve had in my life. But she is at peace now, with grandpa.

We cruised down Highway 1. We stopped at many small cities and they were all breathtaking. We had quite the experience in Pismo Beach, where my friend ended up brushing his teeth with brown poop water and our toilet overflowed every few minutes. One of my favorite cities was Santa Barbara. I went bike riding there and ended up scraping the tip of my toe off as I was going downhill by the beach.

We ended the trip in Los Angeles and Huntington Beach. I attended the L.A. Independent Film Festival and stood next to some famous guy. I know he’s famous, his name has yet to come to me though.

So the day that we were supposed to go back home, David and I returned our car at LAX and we were advised that we had a problem. We were supposed to return the car in Oakland, where we started our trip. They were going to charge us $800 bucks, so Dave and I decided to drive our car back up to Oakland instead.

Unexpected road trip number 2 began.

We changed our flight. We drove back up to Salinas, stayed an extra day with my family and then flew back home the day after.

All in all, California is beautiful, has beautiful weather, and beautiful everything.
