How I did it
It made me 
How I did it: French immersion for 12 years, trips to Quebec and France, and tons of reading. French is one of the most useful languages to lean (along with English). Besides France and Quebec, there are plenty of countries around the world that have French as an official language, and I can't count the number of times that I've run into people who don't speak English, but I can converse with them in French.
