Sorry girls, for writing a rather dismal post but it’s something every pregnant women needs to know about.
I am 25yrs old and during my pregnancy I was the absolute picture of health. My asthma played up a bit, sure, my legs were three times their normal size towards the end, and I may get a little breathless ocasionally but that is all normal, or is it? That’s what I was told and told, over and over at every prenatal visit. It’s normal.
I was discharged from the maternity ward 5 days after giving birth. My asthma was herrendous, my legs even bigger, I couldn’t sleep lying down because I couldn’t breath. I got dizzy spells and made sure the midwives and doctors knew about this. I was still discharged.
SIX hours later, I was admitted to the ICU, I nearly died simply because my lungs and heart were full of fluid. Two days later the team of 18 (yes, 18!!) doctors came to their conclusion. I had CARDIOMYOPATHY, which is simply and literally HEART FAILURE due to the strain of pregnancy and labour. PLEASE, if you have the same symtoms get checked, before or after your pregnancy. It only occurs in one in four thousand pregnancies but it happened to me. Mine was a text book pregnancy. I have always been as strong as an ox, until now. You have to be healthy to enjoy your healthy baby. Good luck, God bless.
