Grow my hair out for the first time in a long time (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 3 months ago

It is getting LONG! I haven’t cut it since April 13, 2009….it is now Sept 10, 2009. I can wear it in a ponytail! I am cutting it when I get home soon into a manageable style, right now it is crazy and all over the place. But I am planning on keeping (and continuing to grow) the length!

I have been better about it but I will not say I have accomplished it yet. Doing so though has helped me A LOT.

I dropped 3 sizes and all the clothes I bought in Jan and Feb don’t fit. I bought about $1K in new clothes today on myshape.com.

talk less and listen more
Untitled 11 months ago

I have to admit, this is a hard one for me. But I have to learn that sometimes people just want to vent and aren’t looking for mt advice, they are just looking for someone to hear them. I have to learn to understand that advice is fine if given, but only when asked to give it. I am going to try to be really cognizant about this and try really extremely hard to do this. I think I will start small and say I will try to do this today and see how it works out.

I have read 2 books this weekend and am about halfway thru my third! So relaxing!!! AND, I am able to do a lot of soul searching due to this third one…a bit scary but def needed for personal growth and acceptance of adulthood.

Be more consistent (read all 3 entries…)

I am doing good with this. I could still exercise more but I have done it a few times this week. So, it is definitely better than nothing and what I was(n’t) doing before. Baby steps. Slow and steady wins the race.

I have been consistent and mindful about it thus leading to a almost a full week of consuming 5 servings of vegetables everyday. I can already tell that I am holding less water and feeling less sluggish!

Not that I am stupid, but everyone needs professional help at one point or another, so I went to the library and picked up some books on fashion and wardrobe. After reading both of them and taking some notes, I feel ready to get back out there and shop for the body I have NOW and not the body I had a year ago or the body I want to have again.

drink less alcohol
Untitled 12 months ago

Well so far I haven’t had any libations for the past 4 days. I didn’t even drink on New Year’s. I am trying to be healthier in general and I tend to be compulsive so, if I drink I usually don’t just have one or two. But I am going to try to change that; instead of getting annihilated, enjoy a social libation.

Done and done! 12 months ago

So we got the place that we both really wanted. It was the first one we looked at but after several others, we knew it was for us. I love its contemporary style, open floorplan, sleek windows, fireplace, flooring, high ceilings, deck, trees, yard…it’s so great, especially for entertaining. I can’t wait to move in!

I have tried to be more cognizant of what I have to do each day to maintain consistency in my life. So far, I have done pretty well. Onwards and upwards.

Gulp 12 months ago

So, I am doing it! So far, I have consumed at least 64 oz of water. And I have to admit I feel pretty good. The cold weather has had some influence on my lack of motivation, regardless of my level of hydration. But, all in all, I can tell a difference. I thought this has been a main culprit for my recent lackluster runs (which, I am sure it does play a role) but after yesterday’s “run” I am just going to chalk it up to being out of shape and being dehydrated. At leastt one of my 43 things is to get back in shape!

Be debt free in 2009
Reminiscing 12 months ago

Back in April 08 I was debt free. For 6 months prior to that I worked hard to pay off a considerable amount of debt. In April, I was able to pay off the remaining $5,500 of the near $20,000 I was initially indebted. I had a net worth of nearly $5,000; I had money in my checking account and an emergency fund of $1,000 in my savings.

Then, I didn’t.

Between buying intangible items that I now can’t even recall, repairing my Cherokee, moving into my apartment and HAVING to buy things for it to make me comfortable, I found myself back in debt.

Even though I have read plenty of financial books and researched America’s obsession with paying for things we can’t afford with credit, looking at credit as “free money”, I again fell in to the self-made trap.

Luckily, I am only $2,480 in debt versus ten times that like before. I have the opportunity to make a lot of money in 2009 and have already raised my retirement savings to 25% of my base income. So, I am happy about that. I am definitely making the steps to financial freedom. This credit card is the only thing holding me back.

In January I hope to pay off the balance, thus releasing me once again into the realm of a financially stable foundation and put my card away. I vow to not use credit unless I HAVE to and instead of using “free money”, which is totally ignorant, I will purchase nothing if I cannot afford it with cash. Hopefully the “suffering” I will endure while saving for what I desire will instill humility and a greater appreciation for what I must have to live “comfortably” and will also cause me to be much more selective in what those things are.

And I am off! 12 months ago

So, I went to the gym dark and early today. I can definitely tell a difference in my strength from even a month ago. I guess it is really a long time to do pretty much nothing except 16 oz bicep curls and lateral cheesecake pumps.

But I did a pretty satisfying lift session followed by a not-so-stellar “run”. Hmmmm, it really is true about losing up to 75% of your cardio endurance in only 7 days…..it has been about 3 times that since I laced up the old kicks for a spin. Baby steps. At least I went period.

I took Spanish in HS but that was over a decade ago. Yikes! But I am Rosetta Stone-ing it and doing well thus far.
