Make friends in Boston
Untitled 3 years ago

I hate being shy. :( I’m terribly bad at meeting people, and it’s recently hit me that I have no friends in this city outside of my boyfriend and people I know through him. I’ve got to get out and meet people but I’m just not good at jumping into situations. It was so much easier when I was still in school!

I see activity groups out there for athletic types or for people to go clubbing but I’m not really into that. I love geeky things like board games and video games and comic books. I used to be in a pretty good book group but the leader moved away and it kind of fizzled. I like going to the indie rock shows, but it’s kind of hard to get a conversation going when the music’s pumping..

Any suggestions?

What can I do from the already mega-liberal Massachusetts?

Ideas?

get a cat
*achoo* 4 years ago

I grew up with kitties in my house and loved them to bits. But I developed allergies to pet dander in my teens and have had to be pet-free.

Now I’m 25 and my allergies don’t seem as bad as they used to. I live in an apartment in the city with a mouse problem and would love nothing more than to get a cat, both for the pleasure of the company and to get rid of the other furry (un)friends.

Have any tips on reducing pet allergies? I get red and itchy eyes, a runny nose, and sneezing on encountering a new cat, but I’ve noticed that these symptoms reduce over time. For example, I spent a week at my aunt’s house with her short-hair cat and I could actually pick the cat up by the end of the week without sneezing. So is there hope? I see a lot of products for reducing pet allergies but I can’t tell if they’re real or a waste of money….
