Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Pay it Forward (read all 10 entries…)
Thing one.

I paid $120 toward my mother’s rent.

Note: I would like my pay-it-forwards to be things that were not asked for. I feel like it’s more meaningful that way. Something to work on in the future.

Run, jog, or walk 1.5mi at least 3days/wk (read all 5 entries…)
Routine

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday- I’ll see you at the gym :)

Simple.

A full tummy.

Get a jar and fill it full of fortunes from fortune cookies! (read all 3 entries…)
That's a lot of chinese food.

I bought the jar! ~ $8.00 (Kitchen Works, blue plastic top)
I ate Chinese food. ~$12.00

Pooka decided to do it w/ me, and we’re well on our way. Only about a thousand more fortune cookies to go :)

Especially when I'm tired.

Crawling into bed under a pile of comforters.
Steaming hot showers.
A quiet house and no obligations for 24hrs or more.

I should make time to seek out more of these...

Beautiful sunsets.

Something I could definitely get used to.

The feeling that comes along with knowing I aced that quiz.

Wearing giant(almost clown-like with the bagginess!), comfortable pajama pants.

Fun :)

I always keep fortunes anyway, though I’m not really sure why. Sometimes they end up lost into the ether, other times washed with clothes, or hidden in piles of paper. If I feel so compelled to keep them, why not store them in a proper place?

I went ahead and found a 10$ gallon-sized jar on Amazon which I’ll likely buy as an Xmas present for myself. That should last me the rest of my life :)

Games

Winning a game of FreeCell.

Figure out what's up w/ my travel voucher (read all 5 entries…)
This week.

I plan on driving down in person this Wednesday so I can finally get it settled. No more calling, or worrying, or attempting finance plans with money I may or may not have :P

Have a scholarship awarded to me (read all 2 entries…)
Aw.

I was turned down for both of the scholarships I applied to. I’m actually really surprised. I was so sure I was the only applicant to at least one of them.

Oh well. There’s always next year, as well as the ones offered outside of my school. I’ll get something eventually!

Look into dental insurance (read all 2 entries…)
All done!

After realizing how silly I was being I went to the site and filled out the form online. If I’m approved, I officially have dental insurance as of next month! Exciting, because I really need a cleaning!

Test for CPOT
By august?

I definitely need to do this, but I don’t think I’ll have the time to study for it this year. Perhaps I’ll plan on it during next semester, or that summer… Then maybe I can get a better job. The idea makes me smile :)

open a Roth IRA (read all 3 entries…)
Hmm.

I had planned on doing this for my birthday, but that has come and gone. I think it may have to wait until next year, just so I can have an easier time of it. I still need to buy a new car, as well as several lesser purchases. Before fall 2010 then? Or my next bday?

Buy an Xbox
You know..

For something I’ve wanted so long, I’m kinda surprised I haven’t gotten it yet. I keep putting it off because something keeps popping up higher on the priority list when it comes to money.

I’ve even bought games for it. I just play on other people’s consoles… when I have the time, which is close to never. Maybe that’s why I haven’t gotten it- no time to play anyway.

But I’m sure I could make some. I find enough time to play on here after all :P

I really have no idea why I haven't done this yet.

I actually did look into it, I just haven’t actually signed up. It’s something I need to do, but I keep putting it off… why? So I can save $20/mo or whatever it’s going to turn out to be?

Kinda. Money is tight. But mostly I think I’m lazy… and perhaps with a full plate already.

Maybe this will be my next personal challenge, just so I can get it done :)

Get my AA (read all 8 entries…)
I've signed up!

I registered for my spring courses. If I’m correct about only needing a computer course to finish my Associates in Arts, I will officially complete it by the end of next semester.

My Associates in Science should follow suit by this time next year, Inshahlah.

Recording attempts...

11/10: 10am, ~3minutes worth of ringing, no answer

Figure out what's up w/ my travel voucher (read all 5 entries…)
Good joke.

It looks like I need to drive 1.5hrs out of my way, just so I can get this finished. I made it a personal challenge thinking I would be able to get it done this weekend, but was redirected to the M-F crowd. Who never answer their phone. I called twice today, and let it ring for over a minute straight each time. Looks like I’ll need to stalk them hourly at the least, not that I think it will do much good. I’m pretty sure that in order to get in touch with anyone, I’ll have to drive my ass out there and haunt their office for a day. Bah!
