write a new song
New song - Bird's nest

I wasn’t sure what to get my mom for mother’s day, so a friend suggested I write her a song. I had written some songs for people or special occasions in the past, but I had never written a song for my mom. I liked the idea and went for it.

Amazingly, the song came together over the course of the weekend (the weekend before Mother’s day) and I was able to make some revisions, record it, and eventually upload it to youtube. On Mother’s day, I pulled up Youtube on my laptop and showed my mom the video of the song. She loved it and gave me a big hug.

I’m glad my friend suggested I write the song; it broke my song writing drought and it gave me a creative way to thank my mom for all the support she’s given me over the years.

Here are the finished lyrics & a link to the video:

In your bird’s nest we grew together
In your bird’s nest; couldn’t stay forever
Your bird’s nest; I will always remember
How you helped me stay warm
And sheltered me from the storm

From your bird’s nest we flew together
From your bird’s nest we’ll fly forever
Your bird’s nest; I will always remember
How you helped me survive
And helped me to feel me alive

Don’t worry, don’t worry I will be okay
Don’t worry, I’ll never be all that far away

In your bird’s nest we grew together
From your bird’s nest we’ll fly forever
To your bird’s nest, do you remember?

How you helped me stay warm
And sheltered me from the storm
How you helped me survive
And helped me to feel me alive
Feel alive, feel alive

go CouchSurfing
CouchSurfing through New England

Spent a long weekend driving from Pennsylvania to Maine and back with my friend Danielle. Saw some beautiful sights including Acadia National Park and Walden Pond. Best part was getting involved with the whole couchsurfing community. We stayed with hosts in Bar Harbor, ME; Camden, ME; and Somerville, MA. We didn’t really know what to expect, but our hosts were all really cool people. The weekend flew by and now I’m anxious to plan my next CouchSurfing adventure!
