My friend came up with a brilliant idea for a nonprofit organization, and I filed all of our documentation with the state and feds, wrote our bylaws and legally incorporated us in 2003. it was not as hard as you think… I got some advice from Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. To date, we’ve received grants and have many other volunteers working with us.
You can use a lawyer to do a nonprofit incorporation, but I thought I could pretty much figure it out myself. If I can do it, anyone can do it!
There are so many excellent programs out there for first time buyers, and we pay less in mortgage and maintenance than it would cost to rent, by about half. Do your research, work with an excellent lawyer and mortgage broker, and make sure you are pre-approved before you even walk in the door to see a potential buy.
