How I did it: it's difficult to say how long this goal took to achieve. i went through a long time of wanting to apply, but being too timid to put myself out there. once i got to it, the applications took about a month to get how i wanted them, and organizing letters of recommendation, transcripts and the like took a similar amount of time. How I did it: I did a lot of research online regarding what to feed, how much to feed, etc. There is plenty of information out there. The difficult part was having the confidence in my ability to provide a balanced diet for my dogs without the convenience of pre-made food. Also, criticism from other dog owners can lead to doubts. In the end, I just watched my dogs. They love the raw food, their coats look healthier and it isn't that much more work. Read how I did it…
Training my two dogs has been a goal for I have made only mediocre progress on during the past 5 months. I feel that I really need to form a plan if I am going to reach my goals. One of the biggest challenges I have been facing is trying to work one-on-one with each of them. When there’s food in my pocket there are always two noses working hard to get at it. Not that I blame them, who’s going to ignore cheddar cheese? There’s a reason that I’m vegetarian and not vegan, it’s an entire food group really, dairy! I love you milk. but I digress.
I need to identify my long term goals, short term goals and create a plan to achieve them.
long term – I would love love love to compete with the Grimm in anything. obedience, agility, schutzhund, rally-o, you get the idea. With Jonah, I want to get his CGC and TDI and possibly do some obedience and rally-o with him. He’s about as coordinated as I am, so agility might be a wee dangerous.
short term – I want these to be goals for individual weeks, or however long they take. ie. touching a target stick, not scaring the bejeezus out of people at the door (ahem…Grimm), etc.
plan – multiple, short, individual training sessions each day. before work, after work, evening, late evening, whatever/whenever I can fit in.
For week 1:
The Grimm – targeting a stick with her nose, not her teeth.
Jonah – same as the Grimm.
I was able to make my first payment this week. While I still have a loooong way to go, it felt good to start chipping away at the debt.
