How I did it: As part of my job I speak three times a year before groups of new students. In addition to that, I have picked up the additional responsibility of giving monthly talks in front of groups. The smaller sessions are good practice for me. I became more comfortable with the material I was presenting (same stuff each time) and am now able to take questions in stride. Most of the time no one else from my office is there watching me wi… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I started by volunteering with a cat adoption group and eventually it became clear to me that I was totally in love with two of the cats being fostered (sisters) who for some reason weren't getting adopted, but were totally cute, and obviously dependent on each other (they would groom one another and cuddle together the whole time on adoption days). I called my landlady, who remained firm on the no pet policy. I began looking … Read how I did it…
How I did it: Put on my skates and wrist guards and jumped on the bike path. Unfortunately, most of the path is "paved" (to use the word generously) in a ridiculously bad condition of gravel. It took me about 45 minutes to go 3 miles, which is barely any faster than walking. That's the last time I try rollerskating near LSU! Read how I did it…

I got a cat. I can’t sleep past the alarm any more even if I wanted to.
Some days I set a low cell phone alarm to wake me from a nap, and either I hear it or I don’t, but the loud blaring alarm going off for an hour is no longer part of my life. I save the loud alarm to go off once in a while, like if I really need to wake up early and wash my hair, or catch a flight.
I set a very meditative-looking Buddha statue on my dashboard and in order to keep him from sliding off the dash, I have been driving more calmly. It is a calming visual until he topples over.
Also I started taking a different route home from work a week ago because the frustration of being “right” is just not worth it. I feel better already.
