How I did it: About a year ago I started making many extra payments toward the loan. As soon as my bi-weekly paycheck would come in, I would sit in front of a calculator with a list of all my bills that were due to be paid within those 2 weeks, and I calculated down to the penny how much money would be left after paying bills, and allowing myself $200 spending money. Then, I would log on to the student loan website, and electronically pay them the… Read how I did it…
On my road trip through TN and KY, my friends and I camped twice in order to save money on a hotel room.
The first night we camped at the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, which was cold and uncomfortable, and also kind of scary because there were bears in the area.
We also didn’t prepare properly for the area and were freezing due to the high elevation. Not entirely enjoyable, but not so bad an experience that we weren’t willing to try camping again.
For the second night of camping we spent it in Kentucky in a place called Land Between the Lakes. This place was not in the mountains, so at night the temperatures were tolerable, and since the campsite was on a lake, we had such beautiful scenery surrounding us. We also met a wonderful fellow camper named Rick, who helped us out tremendously by showing us how to start a campfire, and how to keep it going with out wasting all the wood. (We are city-folk and know nothing of the great outdoors). He sort of took pity on us and offered to show us how to do things properly. He even gave us firewood, because we had none. After teaching us, he introduced to his entire family and told us ghost stories, which kept us entertained for hours.
After spending time with Rick and his family, I really started to appreciate nature and outdoor activities.
It was truly a wonderfully experience and Im very thankful trying camping and for meeting Rick. So thanks Rick, wherever you are.
