I really lucked upon this job – after what seemed like a long while of interviewing and job hunting, I couldn’t have written a better job description for myself at this point in my life.
Today was my first day and it was a great first day. It was a good intro to what I’m going to be doing – a lot of processing blood samples right now and preparing them for shipment (“playing” with infectious agents and dry ice!) – and learning the ropes, gradually learning different techniques and processes and picking up more responsibilities as I go along. Everyone seems really friendly, I really like my supervisor …
I’m checking this one off! I feel like at this point in my life, I really have found a fabulous job, and for the second evening in a row, I’m really truly looking forward to going to work in the morning!

I have realized that I have of late been taking a lot of pictures of the sky at different times – I love trying to capture colors and light.
I need to read about taking pictures – how to best use light – and work with the settings on my camera more in order to take better pictures.
I want to start taking pictures that I can make large prints of to hang in my apartment. I have high ceilings and lots of white walls that I want to accent.
Some ideas:
do larger prints of singular flowers (bright colors) and spice up my kitchen countertop with simple, small, potted flowers
take a picture of the same area in the 4 different seasons – perhaps my house with the city block in the background, or a nice area in Alms Park or of the city from the Purple People Bridge
take a picture of the same scene at different times of day
make an assortment of cool night shots
make an arrangement of the pictures of greyhounds that I have accumulated
More than ever, I need to just carry my camera in my pocket and snap pictures of everything! The more I take pictures, the more I’ll learn :-)

I am waiting to check this one off until I sign the paperwork and walk through the doors of the Medical Sciences Building on my first day of work, but I’ve had a verbal offer for a job that I am SO SO excited to have! I’m not exactly sure of the title, probably just research assistant, but I’m going to be doing lab work in the department of Digestive Diseases in Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati for a trio of doctors (a molecular biologist, a virologist, and an immunologist) who research HIV and Hepatitis C co-infection. I truly cannot wait to start working and to move into my own apartment nearby – to have an easy commute by bike and to (hopefully) love my job is going to be wonderful :-)
