How I did it: I made sure his last few months with us were as memorable as could be and I made sure I took photos of him everytime I saw him. We took each day as it came and if he was with us for one more day, we were grateful. Read how I did it…
In February 2008, my Dad was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme, Grade 4 Brain Tumor. He has had the Tumor out and the prognosis is 4 to 7 months. He has had Radiation treatment every day for a month. His prognosis isn’t good, but I believe that by keeping him positive about life, he will live longer. He is a fantastic Dad and a much loved Granddad to all his Grandchildren too. I have only known him for 21 years as he is really my Step-Father, but I don’t see him that way.
When we first got the prognosis, we were all in shock as it was only 9 years earlier that my sister died of Breast Cancer at the age of 29. Mum was devastated at the thought of losing her husband too to Cancer.
I have been their Support person, taking them to the Doctors and Oncologists visits, Radiation treatments and Hospital visits. It has bought all our family even closer together and people we haven’t seen for years have come forward to help them and us.
Does anybody have any positive stories that I can share with my family to encourage Dad to “win” this battle?
Well, I’ve still got them! I recently had another Ultra-Sound and there are still 2 kidneystones in my left kidney. One of them is 3mm and the other one is 9mm. Where I go from there is anybody’s guess.
