In my attemtps to save money, I would transfer money to my savings account, and then spend money from my checking, forgetting that I had transferred the money over. I was getting lots of overdraft fees, which certainly was not helping my savings goal. Now I take out money I need for the week and spend just that. I can get by with between 80 and 100 dollars for gas and groceries for the week. I’ve learned that if I have the actual cash in my hand, I am much less likely to spend it than if I had a plastic card. Seeing the dollar bills makes me a lot more conscious of the fact that I am spending money. This also takes care of the overdraft fees because I only take out money once a week and I’m not tempted to use my card for little odds and ends that I forget add up fast.

I read “The virgin Blue” by Tracy Chevalier and “Soul of the Fire” by terry goodkind. Both have been sitting on my bookshelf for a few months.
added a good sum of money to my savings account. Since i’m no longer working at a clothing store, i don’t have to worry about being tempted to buy new shirts anymore :)
