I got involved in HFH when I was about 10… my mom was the construction coordinator for the Fort Wayne, IN, HFH. I’ve done it all, from fundraising to talking to students, to actually building the houses. We even were blessed enough to get a habitat house of our own!
You meet so many wonderful people, and learn such awesome skills. It’s great, and it feels so good to help!

So funny to come across this thread- had no idea other people struggled with this, too!
Mostly, I pick at my face. Sometimes I won’t do it for a day or so, but if I touch my skin and feel a blemish or dry patch or something, I usually can’t help myself. And, if I go in the bathroom to check it out, I wind up working over my whole face… I can be in there for 1/2 an hour!
The other night my fiance and I were in bed, and I was reading, and he mentioned that I move around a lot… I didn’t even realize I’d been picking at my face!
I think it’s related somehow to a psych disorder called Trichotillomania, which is recurrent hair pulling. People are vulnerable during times of stress, but do it most frequently during times of idleness… driving, watching tv, reading, studying. Does anyone else notice these similarities?

I learned stained glass during my awesome high school art class, junior year. Since then, I’ve designed and constructed many windows, including:
-fireflies coming out of a coffee cup for the cafe where I used
to work
-a giant abstract of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water for my
bedroom at our new house
-geometric designs for entryways and bathrooms
and so much more!
It’s awesome, and I totally recommend learning how to do this. Private classes are probably the best, because those people know how to teach. Just be warned- if this is something you want to do at home, you really need a separate work area solely for stained glass. In addition to the equipment and supplies, you wind up with tons of shards of glass everywhere.
