Humbling realities of going primitive

Hi everyone, my name is Keith, I’m 21 years old and right now I’m up in the mountains of Montana. I came out here completely open minded and humble because the realities of “Getting back to basics” are very harsh indeed. I wasn’t necessarily sick of society as much as I was intrigued with the simplicity, beauty, and of course, the toil to be able to be truly free and independent. Let me tell you, it is a long road and it has its pitfalls for those not mentally and physically strong enough. I am at Pooh Corners Farm. I work for my room and food and am very happy with the few, but necessary possessions that I have. It is very hard for people to let go of luxuries like electricity, running water, refrigeration, central air and heat, and hot water at the twist of a knob. Here at the farm we haul water to put into tanks, cut wood for our warmth, etc. The labor to have water, warmth, food, makes you see clearly what really matters in this world. No T.V., we read books! Personally I feel healthier, more content, less “jaded”, smarter, tougher (mentally and physically) but I will continue to learn because the learning never ends. I hope this will help people break away like I did because the rewards are great; “You’ll reap what you’ve sown”, in other words you’ll get out what you’ve put in and to me that’s fair. I up and left two jobs and an apartment (I was comfortable, but not happy) and I don’t look back. MEASURE YOURSELF. Just get out there and do it. (Be prepared of course though because the wild is very unforgiving).
