How I did it: I met my love through a friend of a friend of a friend; three degrees of friendship, if I recall. We all connected in a chat room—one of those AOL chats. She was in Hawaii at the time, studying at the University in Manoa. I never thought I'd meet her in person, but we talked online anyway. It made me 
How I did it: I started at a community college, thinking I would study computers for the rest of my life. Crazy! After falling out of love with silicon, I turned into an academic chameleon: English literature, physical sciences (my favorite of which being Astronomy), and so on.
