I just stumbled across the MIT OpenCourseWare site, and they have course material for Japanese (various levels). So far, I’ve only taken a brief poke at the kanji lessons in the Beginning Japanese I materials, but they seem quite helpful, so I thought I’d post a link.

I’ll be spending June 28 on the water getting my [Paddle Canada] Flatwater Skills certification. Here’s hoping the weather is good!
I’m now four weeks into a ten week course in basic Japanese at my local community centre. It’s going well so far; I can read and write hiragana and most katakana, and I’m learning some basic conversation. It would probably be a good idea to learn some kanji, too, but that’s not covered by this course. I may try to do that on my own (learn a new one every day or two), or find another course to take after this.
