PMP certification (read all 5 entries…)
An "Accidental" PM

As a good friend recently pointed out, I’ve been PMing projects throughout my whole career – so why not actually find out what it is that I do and get certified in it. Reading the PMBOK has been quite entertaining – I am already using many of the recommended “best practices” – and now I’m gaining the vocabulary so that I can understand them better and even talk about them!

I DO really need my 1/2 pill :-(

I forgot to take my half pill one day, and my BP was definitely higher than with it. At the very highest end of “normal.” So, I will have to keep working on the weight and keep on the 1/2 pill for a bit longer. But at least it’s only 1/2 pill now and my BP wasn’t wildly into the red zone.

Been reading and listening to pod casts

One of my favorites is Nature’s Harmony Farm’s pod cast. Trying to beef up my virtual library so that when the time comes, I’ll be well armed. Learning as much as I can while I am in a semi-holding pattern here.

develop my creativity
What is creativity?

I think that to be creative, one needs to express the unique vision and interpretation of the world that is carried in one’s body, mind and spirit. One might have interesting ideas or stunning visions; however, if one cannot somehow manifest them, they are just dreams and possibilities. I know a mechanic who creates race cars in his mind and then dons welding helmet and gloves to make them a reality. Are they exactly like his dreams? No; but he is working on race car number 3, now, and the vision and the skills to carry out that vision are becoming stronger and more refined.

But what if my vision and interpretation of the world are not all that unique and interesting? What if I am just expressing the same thing that everyone else is expressing? What if I am BORING? Will the manifestations that I create then reflect that?? This is the fear that prompted me to start this goal.

So, here is something from Keri Smith, to kickstart my brain: 100 Ideas
http://www.kerismith.com/popular-posts/100-ideas/#comment-11046

What other things can I do to kick start my creative thoughts, and, just as importantly, turn them into something?

be a renaissance woman (read all 3 entries…)
How does one become a Woman for All Seasons?
First, I suppose, one needs to define the attributes of a Renaissance Woman. Here’s a list of some ideas …
not in any order
  • She is learned in the human arts:
auditory (music: read, write, play, understand some theory,
    digital music tools, etc.)
visual (photography, drawing, painting, digital rendering, etc.)
tactile (design and build things in wood, metal, earth, etc.)
tastes (cooking, eating, nutrition, complimentary food types,
    nutrition, etc.)
  • She can practice the nurturing arts:
home making (taking care of a home, its appliances, vehicles and
    other items, etc.)
    raising children (large topic, there)
taking care of pets, both mundane and exotic
    nurturing the earth (sustainability, agriculture)
taking care of the body, spirit and mind
  • She is easily at home in both the low tech and the high tech world, being at ease with computers and smart phones and camp fires and calligraphy.
  • She is formally and informally educated in a number of fields – the sciences, the letters, and everything else in between
  • She is aware of the events of the day and of history and how they have come to shape the current state of affairs
  • She is gracious and at ease with both the heads of state and the beggar on the street
  • She understands the connections between the body, mind and spirit
  • While she may choose a particular religious path, she is aware of and versed in the teaching of many religions
  • She is the perennial student, and a teacher when needed; a leader and a follower

And should/does a renaissance woman keep journals and tomes like Leonardo did? And if she does, are her tomes on vellum, printed out from a printer, or only in electronic bits.

These are just a jumble of notes, used to start a conversation, and to stir up inspiration.

Not motivated today

But going to do it any way. Time for action: heading for a quick mile and then an asparagus fritata to start the day. Branching out from salads, because I know if I don’t start changing it up a bit, I’ll get bored and not stick with it. Ugh, ugh, ugh – I need some cheering to keep me going!

11 lbs - 19 left to go

Doctor went over my blood test results and such and said I could lose up to 5 lbs a week – more than the normally recommended because the obesity is affecting my health so much. So, maintained for a week, and now time for the next 10 lbs! I am learning to samba – I am massacring
the dance, but having fun – and it is quite a workout, so good for my heart.

I thought about stopping this during the chaos of getting ready to move; however, I have found that it brings me peace and reminds me that there will be late winter days when I will be tending baby tomatoes again – just not this year. Next year, for sure! So, while sporadic, I am continuing to work on this goal from time to time.

I'm getting stronger

I can tell that even though I am only doing aerobic exercises right now, I am still getting stronger. I can feel muscles in my arms and core – I was able to carry two flat panel monitors at one time the other day and walk them all the way down the hall at work – with ease. In the past, it would certainly have been a “get the cart” and roll them down the hall event. So much easier to just carry them. Having these strong muscles will help me not be so clumsy and help me live to be over 100.

weight loss under a doctor’s guidance. i’ve done the Atkins diet on my own before, and i’ve tried to cut out fast food and such, but this time I am doing it with blood tests and the whole thing so I can make sure that as the weight comes off, the blood pressure and glucose readings go down and I am not missing any major nutrients. I want this to be the last time that I have to lose 30-40 lbs
