First, the main reason for anyone losing weight should be to get healthy and feel great about themselves. Looking better is just a great bonus! And come to terms with what your body’s actually capable of doing. I’ve realized I’m never going to be skinny or petite. And that’s fine. Nothing can compensate for feeling and being healthier, having more energy, and having more confidence in yourself. I’m still in the process of losing but I’ve lost about 20 lbs so far and have about 40 more to go. Even after five lbs I started feeling better about myself and noticed the increase in energy. I didn’t have fatty junk food weighing my body down. (well, that’s how it felt at least.)
I started with weight watchers, which is great and helped a lot. The meetings gave me a lot of tips and it got me started in the right direction.
I took it one day at a time and realized everything had to be balanced and can’t deprive myself of everything. If I knew I was going to go to dinner, cookout, party, etc. I would work out a little extra that day but still try to make the healthiest choices possible when there.
I started doing exercises I enjoyed more and mixed them up. Im not one to go to the gym and jog on the treadmill for an hour, or follow a strict exercise plan, I’ll do 20-30 minutes but I get bored. So I started doing Tae Bo (DVD’s), belly dancing, yoga, I started cheerleading again, walking or jogging the beach. The belly dancing and yoga I just DVR from Fit TV…no money and they’re only about 25 minutes, fun, and you feel it. Tae Bo I’ve always loved. It mixes cardio with weight training.
If you’re starting out exercising DON’T push yourself too much the first time or couple of times. It shouldn’t be a chore. If you push yourself too much you’ll get too sore and you won’t want to continue with it, you’ll psyche yourself out before you really even get started.
Also keep in mind…it gets easier! If you start off by walking for 15-20 minutes and it’s a little tough…stay with it…in a few days you’ll notice it’s easier, then you can increase your walking time.
Use the internet for fitness tips.
Set small weight loss goals. It’s less overwhelming and the overall goal is more attainable. Treat yourself when you meet the goals, not foodwise, but with maybe a new shirt or pants that fit better, a pedicure or facial.
It’s okay if you have a bad day…recoup, and start again.
Fad diets don’t work, though they may give some good tips, it’s only a quick fix, not long term.
This is your life…you only get one shot at it, make it the best you can!
Hope I helped a little. Good luck to everyone!
