My husband took me to Aurora for Valentine’s Day last year. It was an amazing experience, but one we could only afford once or twice in a lifetime. The first thing the waiter did was bring over a wooden box full of truffles. When he opened it, the earthy aroma filled the entire (very small) restaurant. We had an amuse bouche, rabbit with polenta, risotto with truffles, and a steak with foie gras and truffles. The only thing that didn’t impress me was the dessert.

How I did it: I learned beading from my sister and a friend. It was somewhat tedious and made my back hurt. I made some pieces for myself and for gifts, but you can buy jewelry at Sam Moon's or other places just as cheaply. So I think I'll give it up as soon as I use up all my materials. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I was unable to afford tickets to the Dallas Opera, which is too far away anyway. But now you can see operas live in HD at select movie theaters. It has been a fabulous experience. I saw Fleming in the Opening Night Gala, where she played three different characters. I'm seeing her in Thais tomorrow night. I encourage anyone who loves opera to try this new venue. How I did it: I was unable to afford tickets to the Dallas Opera, which was too far away anyway. But now you can see operas live in HD at select theaters. What a blessing! I'm seeing Renee Fleming in Thais tonight, andthen I'll see La Rondine this weekend. I also saw Renee Fleming in the Opening Night Gala this season. I encourage anyone who loves opera to try this new venue. The seats are the best in the house! Read how I did it…

I didn’t spend a week in a mountain cabin, but I spent several days in silence at a retreat in Houston. It’s called the Cenacle Retreat House, and is run by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Retreat. It’s open to anyone, for any length of time. It was a peaceful, spiritual experience, and I’ll definitely do it again next summer.
Now I’ve been able to see several operas at the movies, and I think it’s the greatest thing ever. I’m seeing Renee Fleming in Thais tomorrow night, and several more operas this season. It’s fabulous!
