I got tattooed on my left forearm. The writing reads “Good Night, Mrs. Calabash wherever you are.” This was Jimmy Durante’s Famous sign-off line to all his radio and TV shows. (Jimmy Durante was a famous actor, comedian, and singer.) When I was little my Dad, who grew up watching the show, would say the line just like Durante as he tucked my sister and me into bed at night. My dad passed away in 2002 and I got my tattoo to help me remember all the good times and how much he loved us. Now whenever I feel down I see the tattoo remember how important life is and to live every day to the fullest. I suggest getting a tattoo if it really has a meaning to you. Don’t get something just because you think it looks cool. Chances are a few years from now you are not going to like it unless it really has meaning.
I hiked Macchu Picchu while visiting Peru and the Galapagos Islands with a tour company. The altitude and the high number of steep steps make the full hike demanding even for people in good shape. If you are an experienced backpacker and want the real experience defiantly DIY it and bypass the sherpas. The sherpas are awesome people and work really hard but personally I want to be self sufficient and carry my own gear. Seeing the sunrise over Macchu Picchu on the last day was awesome.
