I have an option arm. With interest rates so low it is actually benefiting me now…where the minimum payment that once didn’t even cover the full interest and principal and was causing my loan to negatively amortize…is now the 30 year rate for full principal and interest. So, I’m going to sacrifice and budget wisely to pay the 15 year term of full principal and interest which is about $500 more per month. The challenge is to pay the 15 year term, keep saving as much as I am saving, paying the same monthly bills which I had already trimmed down a few years ago, and tithe fully which I just started the end of last month. This leaves me with very little wiggle room but that’s the point. I want this process to restructure my life…cause me to cook more often, eat in, make use of my pantry, find cheap to free entertainment, live more simply. August 1st will be my first test.

How I did it: I filled out the application, didn't have to take the GMATs because I had at least a 2.5 GPA from undergrad (this was great because I am horrible at those tests) and applied to Nova (in south fl), which had a rolling admission. I started my first class in January and worked full time at the same time. It took so long because I also got a graduate certificate in MIS (management information systems) and I had to take just about … Read how I did it…
my vacation to Vail, CO was absolutely the best thing I could have done for myself and done to contribute to this goal. I got so much clarity just staring at the mountains and reading the book, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. Starting my day with just one thought: what do “I” want to do today? There is so much freedom in that question and I don’t ask myself that sincerely quite often enough. I feel strong.
I realized on this journey that I’ve borrowed, stole, whatever you want to call it, inspiration from some keys books. These books have had/are having a profound impact on this journey:
- The Transparent Self, Sidney Jourard (understanding the importance of self disclosure)
- The Secret (video), Ronda Byrne (the power of visualization and mastering your thoughts)
- Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert (a very relatable journey of self discovery beginning with the question of what do you really want?)...I’m reading this now on my solo trip to Colorado and it’s just powerful
- The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren (building a relationship with God)
- The Bible, God :) (haven’t been able to read this as consistently as I would like or should but I’m gonna get there)
