Finally saved up the money to buy the Xootr Swift, and it’s currently wending its way to me in San Francisco. For more information regarding the bike (including lots of pictures), check out this extensive thread on bikeforums.net.

found the bike, at least

I still haven’t bought one, but I’ve found the proper bike to buy—not one of those ubiquitous Dahon copies or an expensive with unfindable replacement parts Brompton. Instead, I yearn for the normal-sized-bike-like wheelbase and off-the-shelf parts with option-to-go-fixed-gear of the Xootr Swift.
so much better

No more swapping to the hard disk. It’s lovely. I wanted to get the full Gig of RAM, but ended up going with only a half-Gig because it’s so much cheaper. It still ended up being worth it—for the most part if I don’t let Safari run for too long (am I the only one noticing memory leaks in that application?), the HD will completely spin down, and I can surf the web in utter silence.
