Have a baby
Not so easy for some of us 9 months ago

It seems like a silly thing to have as a goal. Most people do the deed, and the rest just kind of follows. Well, I just had 2 miscarriages in 4 months so the getting pregnant part seems to be easy for us, but the staying pregnant part is not so easy. We ran some tests and found out that my hubby has a chromosomal abnormality called a balanced translocation. This interferes with the normal development of the fetus and leads to recurrent miscarriage. Babies who don’t miscarry can be born with severe defects or could be carriers themselves (not the worst outcome, but not the best). We are exploring IVF with Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD). It might be the only way we’ll have a healthy baby. I never in my life dreamed I’d have to undergo IVF to have a baby, but we are going to do whatever it takes. We want to be parents so badly.

Did it and working on my second 9 months ago

I passed my LMFT exam one year ago. My license qualified me for a better, higher paying job within my agency and I moved positions about 8 months ago. I love my new job. Unfortunately, the state requirements have shifted and I am now pursuing my LCPC license in addition to the LMFT I already have. I’m currently studying for the LCPC exam.

Did it but pulled back 9 months ago

I had a thriving part time private practice clientele for a while. But then I found that the more my clients demanded my time, the less time I had for me and my husband. Eventually I found I was working 6-7 days a week. I was too stressed out and I couldn’t take any time off. Now I’ve pulled back on my commitment and stopped taking new clients. I am only seeing a couple of long term clients one evening a week (in addition to my full time school therapist job). In the future, I may expand it again and attempt to go full time private practice, but not for a while.
