So, I found classes 90 minutes away in Jax, FL and planned to start in September. I found an ad for auditions for a play on craigslist and emailed the director to see if I could stop by and observe. He had me audition and because his first choice had scheduling conflicts, I was able to get a part! I just hope my inexperience won’t cause me to let anybody down. But I am trusting the judgment of the director, since I am clueless… I am not afraid of failing, just of not trying.

So… I am 38 years old, finally in a paralegal career after doing a bunch of different jobs in retail and restaurant management. Got the security and respect I was striving for and then… mid-life crisis. Turns out those “silly” dreams have pretty tough staying power.
In an effort to avoid the wholly stupid desire to abandon everything I’ve worked for, I plan to take a class in acting and see if some real life experience in performing will quiet the demon dreams.
Of course, the state university nearby only offers classes during the day. And I don’t think I have the nerve to approach and audition for the local theater groups with no clue. So, I will try to find a class that is on the weekend, where I can gain some skill and hopefully equal measure of confidence and courage.
