How I did it: We waited and used our tax refund to get us each a tattoo, my first, his third.  We started researching parlors in our area, looking at their work and talking to others in the area whose ink we admired, and finally chose our parlor.  Once we knew where we wanted to go, we went in and talked to them about how much it would cost for the ink we wanted.  Once we knew that, we decided we'd have to use our tax refund.
