For lunch I had an almond butter sandwich and fruit. Tonight I ate rice, steamed veggies and gardein Chick’n Mandarin for dinner. Typically I dislike faux meats, but Gardein is pretty decent tasting, and has a good texture. Plus it’s fast, which is important when you’re eating with a yoga deadline in mind

How I did it: I've been focusing on reading more for several years. After I finished college, my reading dropped dramatically. And I was spending so much time on the internet reading poorly written blogs and comments that I was forgetting what it was like to read good prose. Now I read regularly; I try to read for at least 15 minutes a day. I can read several books a month this way. Read how I did it…
How I did it: After forgetting about this goal, and a very long time, a friend of mine rang me up and suggested I start going to yoga with her. So I've started taking a gentle vinyasa flow class once a week. After all the dithering around at home, going out into the world and taking the class has worked. After only one class I felt really good. The tension in my jajw and shoulders dissolved and I slept like a baby afterwards. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I thought I'd do this myself, but I didn't. Quite glad of it, really, as it's horribly messy. We had someone cover the ceiling with new drywall, the thinnest we could get, and left the walls textured. I did do the painting myself, using an eco-friendly low-VOC paint, which makes the whole experience of painting in a tight room much nicer. Read how I did it…

It was a good one! I’ve come a long way in the thirty days. I can consistently get into standing-bow-pulling alongside the rest of the class, and stay there a while before falling out. I’m even occasionally falling forward. I’m flirting with holding the second set the whole time, which is what, 30 seconds? I amaze myself! I think back to when I couldn’t even grab my ankle without digging my nails into my skin; blood was shed over this pose.
I’m also making fabulous progress with floor bow. For about a week I’ve been able to wiggle and shimmy my way into holding both ankles. Momentarily I’ve drawn my knees in and lifted. But that gets old about the same time as I realize I’m doing it. For now my goal is to hold both ankles until the instructor says change.
The best quote of the night, from across the room: Is this the part where you turn the air-conditioner on?
I was a vegan for the first three days of this year. It got me reacquainted with hunger, if nothing else. While I appreciate veganism, I didn’t really enjoy it. Maybe not in this lifetime. I also noticed that after that, and another week of mostly vegetarian meals, my anemia flared up again. But having one vegetarian day a week, and a few veg* dinners, I think that’d be good for my health.
