Grave Danger Airs On Investigation Discovery
My reenactment gig on the ID cable channel starts airing nationwide on January 5th. Here’s the story:
After two years of marriage, Stephanie Pepper Sims, a Louisiana Tech University Professor who grew up in Jonesboro, LA a small town and her husband David Sims, a successful accountant, were getting separated. What seemed to a story book marriage was headed for disaster.
November 2002, Stephanie and friend Ginger Steward stop to have a few drinks at a local bar where Stephanie met Wayne Guidry, Jr. He told the women he was in the area doing some hunting and he was a professional golfer. According to Ginger, Guidry swept Stephanie off of her feet.
After a week of seeing Guidry, Stephanie told her husband David that she wanted a separation. A few weeks later, she disappeared. David denies knowing anything about his wife’s disappearance and so does Guidry. One of them is a liar and a killer.
Stephanie Pepper Sims disappeared on January 5, 2003. After a six-week search, her body was found in a secluded hole in a wildlife management area near Quitman, Louisiana. She had suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest.
In the reenactment we filmed a few months ago, I played the part of Stephanie’s dad, Howard Pepper.
The actress playing my wife, Barbara, and I check Stephanie’s apartment and all seems normal. Her computer is on and connected to the Internet through a dial-up connection that used the single phone line. When I terminate the Internet connection, Stephanie’s phone immediately begins to ring. The caller is Guidry inquiring about Stephanie. He suggests I check Stephanie’s car. We go outside to check the car and notice that the engine is still warm to the touch, indicating that the car had been driven within the last few hours. That’s when we contact police to report Stephanie missing.
Later, Guidry told us that Stephanie had recently attempted to commit suicide. He explained that she was in the bathroom taking her bath when the apartment lights went out. When he jumped up to check on her in the bathroom, Guidry said Stephanie was standing in the tub with the hair dryer down in the tub. This information raised “red flags” for me, because I understood electricity and electrical code requirements and knew the apartment lights would not go out if the bathroom outlet was overloaded. I perform an experiment in Stephanie’s apartment bathroom and determine that it was physically impossible for the hair dryer to reach the tub while plugged into the electrical outlet.
