PADI certified Open Water Diver!!! 1 year ago

Made the 4th and 5th dives today from a boat, at Kea’au and “Land of Oz”. Scared stiff the first dive, haven’t gone 60 ft. before and my mask was fogged (not enough defog) so I couldn’t see clearly. Once I adjusted it was smooth sailing. Saw a needlefish and a really cool sea turtle as well as tons of fish.
This was def. worth it, although awfully expensive. I will do my best to continue my training and not let this go to waste. In terms of difficulty and danger, I would compare it to the Army Airborne school although I was a million times more proud to get my airborne wings pinned on. Oh, they got my birthdate wrong on my certificate too X|. But if you can’t do this, at least take up snorkeling. There’s a lot of cool and fascinating things down there!

‘till then,

Brandon

Ocean Dives #1 and #2 1 year ago

Well, 5 days of classroom instruction finally paid off.

Today I dived from the shores of “electric beach” Hawaii.

Look at the fish was really cool. I wish I could pet one, but I don’t think that fish like to be petted. They swam really close to me…I was surprised but I guess it was their turf this time and I was just visiting.

The cliche is that we know more about the moon than our ocean. I think that’s a shame, given all the life and other cool stuff that’s down there.

I’m praying to God that all goes well tomorrow and get my certification. I think I’ll try and continue diving, but it’s bound to be pretty expensive. I think I can afford one boat trip a month…I’ll go for my advanced open water certification when I have the time and money to afford a regulator/bcd :p

Diving Classes 101 1 year ago

Just starting a one-week certification course through PADI…looking to get my license by June 4th if all goes well.

A warning…the gear, should you choose to buy a set, is waay more expensive than the course. Make sure you know what you’re getting into before you sign up! The mask, snorkel, fins, booties, and bag cost $350. I don’t even want to think of how much a regulator, BCD, and dive computer is going to run ya…

But the feeling of being able to breathe underwater today…I felt like I was flying in an alien landscape. Getting over the fear of losing my regulator and not having air was way simpler than I thought it would be…

Good times _V
