As I get older, I’m noticing the little things that really matter to me on a day-to-day basis. I don’t mean peace, love and understanding, but the little things around me that have an impact on the way I feel. Since we’re both working from home now and trying to make home the best place to work, some things have become a little more clear.
Since we’ve been home from our year away, we’ve been getting rid of a bunch of crap in our house. This has created temporary stacks and piles of unwanted items that just hang around – old books, picture frames, nik-naks, etc. Clutter. It’s all on the way out, bit for a few weeks now it has bothered me to no end. It’s like a worry that hangs over you – you don’t even think about it, but it’s there, lurking in your mind, taking away a tiny bit of enjoyment from a day. It makes me walk into a room and sigh. Mess is my nemesis.
Just yesterday we went on a cleaning spree and got the house about 90% clutter free. When I got up this morning, it felt like a better day (aside from it being a Sunday) simply because I didn’t have to walk around the house and look at clutter and piles of unwanted detritus. A weight has been lifted and when it comes to working from home, this is a very good thing.

I took over 14,000 photos in 2006 and right now they exist on DVDs and an external harddrive. Thankfully, Flickr recently made their photo storage unlimited. So, I can now upload all 14,000 photos and have them backed up on the Flickr site.
I just started tonight using the Flickr Uploadr (2.4 beta), which makes it easy.

It’s going to take a while, but this is all about peace of mind. About 400 done – only 13,500 to go!
Our house has been a wreck, at least in a couple of rooms near the door where we’ve piled all things unwanted. Bags of old clothes, a box of old speakers, an old shelf stereo and various miscellany. As I kept reminding Sachi – look at all this stuff! We’ll never have to move it again! Indeed, this is liberating.
Today we nearly packed the back of the truck full with unwanted and mostly un-ebay-able items and gave it away to Goodwill. Ahhhhhh.
