One of the few records which was present in my mther’s house was a battered copy of a Handel’s Messiah LP.
The mysterious cover along with its ‘strange’ musical arrangements to my ear has been constant memory from my childhood. I can recall siiting for many hours next to the radiogram keenly listening to every syllable of the choir and the haunting arias of this famous piece.
Even now, I shed a tear for my childhood whenever I hear it.
Howard Goodall has just aired a wonderful documentary on Handel and the Messiah (BBC4) and it gave me the idea of producing a version with some of the best original Handel pieces mixed with perhaps a one or two jazz/gospel interpretations. The performance would feature some of the finest singers and instrumentalists at a great venue such as the Albert Hall – and a concurrent movie during the concert.
Dreams, eh???
I will contact one or two people to see if we can get this off the ground.
I need to set up a committee for the financing.
I need to find a credible musical director to conduct or arrange or both.
We need to find a chair person to help set up a ticket marketing committee.
I will add more details as and when I get more support.
Mark
